Additional groundwater monitoring wells are being installed on and around the Business Park during the week of June 13. A drilling rig will perform 30 borings to install the new wells. This additional monitoring will enable Badin Business Park to better address identified knowledge gaps and public concerns.
A work plan for the proposed investigations has been shared with the NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
This work is the result of a process that began in December 2021, when Badin Business Park notified DEQ that it was engaging an independent contractor to review past investigations and present site conditions to develop a comprehensive Conceptual Site Model to better understand the water sub-surface flow on our site. The independent review also involved examining concerns expressed by the public to ensure the site remains protective of human health and the environment.
As part of this process, the contractor recommended the additional groundwater monitoring.
